Chapter 406: Their 'Target'
Actually, Yu Sheng had long wanted to try mass-producing a bunch of Elins. The idea had been bouncing around in his head for at least half a month.
Without any particular reason—he just thought it would be fun. Like most of his ideas, it popped into his head without any justification.
Of course, now he actually had a good reason: to unlock Elin's combat potential, and to better handle troublesome enemies like that priest from earlier.
As for the subject of this idea, the little doll was clearly quite supportive—after all, when it came to 'whimsical ideas,' Elin and Yu Sheng had always been on the same wavelength. She was the type who loved chaos, and he was the one who delivered it...
So the two of them talked it over and immediately hit it off, becoming partners in crime, birds of a feather, perfectly matched in mischief...
"There's just one problem," Yu Sheng said, rubbing his chin as he seriously began to mull over the details of the plan. "Mass-producing a bunch of bodies for you isn't the hard part. The hard part is whether you'll be able to control them all. You're already splitting your attention four ways, right? I remember at first, you could barely handle two bodies without stumbling all over the place."
Elin also thought seriously for a moment. While continuing to crackle with electricity, she said, "I think it'll work. Remember what I told you at the beginning? My bodies can actually run in 'low-bandwidth' mode. I can give basic instructions and let 'her' move on her own. After all, from the perspective of puppet alchemy, a completed spirit-infused puppet is already a complete 'life'—it has basic spirituality. If left alone long enough, it might even develop its own intelligence..."
"Of course, since I'll definitely be establishing a connection with those bodies, we can ignore that last possibility. The bottom line is, if I just need to make those shells move and fight as cannon fodder, I should be able to manage."
She paused, thinking for a long moment before continuing, "Besides, even taking all that into account, the exact number of bodies I can control at once is still unknown. We'll have to actually build the mass-produced versions and run some tests to find out."
Yu Sheng listened to Elin's serious analysis with a stunned expression. Watching her deep in thought, he suddenly found it hard to believe.
He was so used to this little doll's usual carefree attitude that he never expected she could actually think seriously about something. He couldn't help but marvel—truly, everyone had their own specialty; no one knew their own situation better than themselves. This little thing couldn't even last-hit minions properly in lane, and she'd waste three minutes on the high ground shopping for equipment, but when it came to puppet control, she was practically a natural-born prodigy at splitting her consciousness.
Elin immediately caught the shift in his gaze and snapped her head up. "I feel like you're badmouthing me in your head!"
"Your imagination," Yu Sheng waved dismissively, throwing out a casual lie. "I'm just marveling at how amazing you are."
"You bet," Elin immediately grinned smugly, her suspicion not lasting two seconds. "Let me tell you, I've discovered I'm definitely talented at controlling clones! At first, controlling two bodies was really hard, but now controlling four at once is a piece of cake for me... In short, I just need to keep practicing! Once you make the mass-produced ones, I'll give them a real test. I really want to know what my limit is for controlling clones."
"Alright, I'll get everything ready later," Yu Sheng chuckled, then turned and walked toward the tea table. "But for now, I need to figure out this Yun Qingzi and what's up with this 'Sublime Sanctuary Cult' that's suddenly appeared."
When they heard that, the handsome older guy and his nephew sitting across from the tea table immediately perked up. Even Luna, who had been standing by the window spacing out, took a couple of steps closer.
"I just can't figure out how those creepy cultists ended up working with someone like Yun Qingzi," Yu Sheng muttered, shaking his head as he sat down on the sofa. "The two sides don't have anything in common in terms of style or territory. They shouldn't have any connection at all."
"True. The Sublime Sanctuary Cult rarely operates in the Feiyu Star Sector. The sudden appearance of that 'priest' also took me by surprise," Yuan Hao nodded, but quickly shifted gears. "But on the other hand—they may not have appeared before, but recently, the Thousand Peaks Spirit Mountain has captured some of these heretics at the border."
Yu Sheng frowned slightly, looking thoughtful.
Of course he remembered—Xuan Che had told him about this. In fact, one of the reasons he had come to the Feiyu Star Sector as a guest was his curiosity about the cultists' suspicious activities there. But ever since he arrived, one unexpected event after another had kept him busy, and he had put that aside.
"You mean... those cultist nests you discovered at the border back then?" Yu Sheng said hesitantly, then added with curiosity, "By the way, aren't you supposed to be hands-off? How come you know about all this?"
Yuan Hao looked a bit embarrassed. "These past years... I have indeed avoided personally managing Thousand Peaks Spirit Mountain's affairs 'for various reasons,' but I still keep informed. And after returning this time, I caught up with my junior brothers and learned many things."
"Oh," Yu Sheng said, rubbing his chin. He didn't press further on the topic that embarrassed the handsome elder and quickly returned to the main subject. "But as far as I know, the nests discovered back then weren't in this area either."
No sooner had he finished speaking than a familiar voice came from outside the window, before Yuan Hao could even respond. "That can only mean the nests we found back then were just some scattered 'outposts.' The place where those heretics have truly taken root in the Feiyu Star Sector has always been 'Xu Ji'!"
Yu Sheng looked up at the sound and saw a rainbow light piercing through the rain outside the window. As the voice finished, the light zipped through the window gap and flew inside.
But at that moment, the steel wire rope that Elin was using to 'discharge' electricity and act as a ground wire was still resting on the windowsill (which was why the window was slightly open).
Everything happened too fast. Yu Sheng didn't even have time to warn before he saw the rainbow light brush against the steel wire on the windowsill...
In the next instant, a sharp crack sounded. Everyone saw an electric arc, at least seven or eight meters long, zigzagging with blue-purple spiritual light, cut through the air. One end connected to Elin's arm, the other to the flying rainbow light. The steel wire that had been acting as a conductor vaporized in an instant. Then Xuan Che flew out of the rainbow light like a ball of lightning, letting out a cry of surprise as he shot across the entire hall and slammed with a thud into the opposite wall.
But you had to admit, cultivation physiques were remarkable. Xuan Che, plastered against the wall, sprang up in just a second. At the same time, he shoved a handful of unknown pills into his mouth and spun around as if facing a great enemy. "Who—who released that divine thunder!"
As he spoke, residual electricity crackled all over his body, his hair standing on end. His eyes were looking in two different directions for several seconds before his vision finally focused, and he saw the little doll sitting in the middle of the living room, staring back at him blankly—along with the electricity around her.
The room was very quiet.
Even Yu Sheng, who frequently dealt with peculiar people and strange events, was momentarily at a loss for how to respond.
Finally, Elin broke the silence. She looked down at her palm, then looked up at Yu Sheng with surprise. "Hey! I discharged half of my electricity!"
The next second, she jumped to her feet and stared at Xuan Che. "Stay right there!"
Cold sweat immediately beaded on Xuan Che's forehead, and his face turned deathly pale (whether from fear or the electric shock, it was hard to tell). "Miss Elin, calm down!"
"Calm down my ass! This is my only body that has good hand feel for gaming, but now I can't even touch my phone!" Elin rattled off loudly. "Just bear with it—treat it like crossing a tribulation. It'll be over in a flash—"
Xuan Che looked terrified and turned to Yu Sheng. "Mr. Yu, save me!"
"Elin, sit back down! Don't cause trouble right now!" Yu Sheng finally intervened and got Elin to settle down. After the little doll muttered and sat back in the middle of the living room, he turned his attention to Xuan Che. "You... ah, this interruption broke my train of thought. Where was I... oh right, the Sublime Sanctuary Cult. Did you meet with the city lord of Mo City? Did you learn any information about those cultists?"
Xuan Che let out a breath of relief. As he walked over, carefully avoiding Elin, he straightened his hair and clothes. "Sigh, I didn't get much information. Neither the cultists nor the black-robed cultivators—the city lord here was completely unaware of their existence... Although it's still too early to draw conclusions, in my opinion, both the city lord of Mo City and the star-guardian elder of Xu Ji have been quite negligent over the years."
As he spoke, he sat down next to Yu Sheng and took a moment to organize his thoughts. "But on the way back, I did think about some things."
Yu Sheng raised an eyebrow. "Oh?"
"About why that 'Cult' has gotten mixed up with Yun Qingzi," Xuan Che said calmly. "Just before I... 'entered,' I overheard your conversation. You're right—the Cult and someone like Yun Qingzi should have no connection at all. But what if they share a common 'target'? That would change things."
"A common target..." Yu Sheng repeated the words, his expression growing serious.
It was still unclear what Yun Qingzi was really after, but as for the Sublime Sanctuary Cult's 'target'—or at least their biggest recent goal—he knew it very well.
"The Dark Angel!"
