Chapter 111 – Decapitation Strike
by vap0r1Chapter 111 – Decapitation Strike
Yu Kai chuckled and said, “Lord, what should we do now? If we don’t eliminate these demonic birds, we won’t be able to obtain that treasure.”
Cheng Yang replied, “Didn’t I tell you to look for the large white-headed eagle? Once we take out the big one, the rest will be easier to handle.”
“Lord, look!” Liu Xiyue pointed into the distance, whispering to Cheng Yang.
Cheng Yang immediately followed her gaze and saw a massive bird’s head emerging from a nest at the mountain’s peak. The size of its head was significantly larger than the mid-tier white-headed eagles they had encountered earlier.
“That must be the one,” Cheng Yang said with excitement. But his joy was short-lived as he realized the nest was over a hundred meters away, with countless smaller nests between them. The trees had been stripped bare by the birds, making stealth nearly impossible.
Yu Kai suggested, “Lord, maybe we should just fight head-on. With your defense, these creatures won’t even be able to scratch you.”
Cheng Yang shook his head. “I can withstand their attacks, but what about you? You might survive a few hits, but Liu Xiyue wouldn’t last a single round. Don’t underestimate these white-headed eagles. Although they’re only early first-tier, they’re several times more dangerous than ordinary demonic beasts. You’ll see soon enough.”
After a moment of silence, Cheng Yang continued, “Let’s first look for a suitable location.”
The trio scanned their surroundings, and Yu Kai’s sharp eyes soon spotted a concave rock formation to their left. It wasn’t exactly a cave, but the overhang would provide excellent cover from aerial attacks.
After explaining the plan, they decided to make their stand there. “Move out! Yu Kai, take the lead,” Cheng Yang ordered.
Yu Kai didn’t hesitate, quietly moving towards the rock formation with Liu Xiyue following closely. Cheng Yang brought up the rear, keeping watch.
They were only forty meters away from the rock formation, and the ground was relatively clear of obstacles. But just as they crossed the halfway point, a piercing eagle cry echoed above them, followed by a gust of wind and dark clouds swirling towards them.
Yu Kai glanced back and was stunned by the sight. The demonic birds, with wingspans exceeding three meters, were descending upon them with terrifying speed and ferocity.
“Be careful!” Cheng Yang shouted urgently. “Get to the rock formation now!”
Before his words fully registered, seven or eight white-headed eagles were upon them, their massive talons reaching out to grab the trio.
“Damn it!” Cheng Yang cursed under his breath as he launched an ice sphere, instantly bringing down one of the eagles. Yu Kai and Liu Xiyue also unleashed their strongest attacks, taking down two more birds.
But their initial assault was over, and the remaining eagles swooped in with deadly precision. “Don’t let them grab you!” Cheng Yang warned, remembering how some people in his past life had been carried into the sky and dropped to their deaths.
Yu Kai and Liu Xiyue barely managed to dodge the initial strikes, but the eagles didn’t engage in prolonged combat. Instead, they ascended rapidly, only to be replaced by another wave of attackers within seconds.
Cheng Yang acted swiftly, targeting a particularly large eagle heading for Liu Xiyue. His ice sphere struck true, and the creature plummeted to the ground.
“Run!” Cheng Yang shouted, no longer concerned about drawing more attention. He scooped up Liu Xiyue and dashed towards the rock formation, his speed nearly matching that of the first-tier eagles.
As they reached the safety of the overhang, Cheng Yang noticed Yu Kai was in trouble. A massive eagle had grabbed him and was lifting him into the air. Without hesitation, Cheng Yang launched another ice sphere, striking the eagle and causing it to release its grip.
Yu Kai fell to the ground, only to be confronted by an even larger eagle – the leader of the flock. Cheng Yang quickly cast a freezing spell, immobilizing the creature mid-air and causing it to crash to the ground.
Taking advantage of the situation, Cheng Yang launched another ice sphere at the immobilized leader. However, to his surprise, the attack didn’t finish the creature off. The eagle broke free from the freezing spell and charged at Cheng Yang with renewed fury.
Realizing the leader was stronger than he had anticipated, Cheng Yang dodged the initial strike but couldn’t completely avoid the attack. The eagle’s talons tore through his magical robe, dealing significant damage and reducing his health by 26 points.
*This thing is definitely beyond first-tier late stage,* Cheng Yang thought, preparing for the next round of combat.
